Discussion Topic: BSNL Working on 22,000 Additional 4G Sites – Can It Compete with Private Players?

State-run telecom operator BSNL is reportedly working on the rollout of 22,000 additional 4G sites across India as part of its ongoing network expansion plan. This move is aimed at improving network performance, enhancing coverage in underserved areas, and addressing long-standing concerns around speed and call quality.

The expansion is also seen as a strategic step to strengthen BSNL’s position against private telecom players that already operate extensive 4G and 5G networks. With increasing data consumption and rising user expectations, network quality has become a key differentiator in the telecom market.

However, questions remain. Will this large-scale 4G rollout be enough to change user perception? Can BSNL execute the deployment quickly and efficiently? And how will it balance affordability with performance while competing against aggressive private operators?

💬 Discussion points for the community:

  • Will 22,000 new 4G sites significantly improve BSNL’s network experience?

  • Can BSNL realistically compete with private players on speed and coverage?

  • Is focusing on 4G still the right move in the era of 5G?

  • What should BSNL prioritize next—network quality, pricing, or services?

Share your views, experiences, and expectations. Let’s discuss whether this expansion can be a turning point for BSNL. 👇

BSNL is very late in this process and still working on 4G sites, while other players have already deployed 5G and working on 6G deployment.

But still it's good for the customers who are using BSNL, they will have better network connectivity atleast.
