Flipkart’s Strategy On Amazon Entry Into India - Case Analysis

E-commerce business is growing at very fast pace in India , as it is expected that India will become 3rd largest nation of internet users by 2014, so E-commerce business is expected to grow to Rs 7000 Crores by 2015 as compare to Rs 2500 Crore  in 2013.There are many online players as flipkart.com, myntra.com, fabmart, indiaplaza.com and many others , doing very good online business. Google study reveals that 51% of traffic for its online shopping festival is from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, it reveals that people in India from small cities are also showing their interest towards online shopping, which is a positive sign for e-commerce industry.

Flipkart one among the leaders in e-commerce business in India is growing at very fast pace , on the other side, it is also facing competition from ebay and jungle.com (an indirect entry of Amazon.com in India). So flipkart has to gear up with strategies to take on its competitor and specially amazon.com.

Analysis:
E-commerce business is gaining ground in India. Especially tier- 2 and tier-3 cities people are taking much interest in online shopping as they don’t have very easy access to top brands, so online shopping is an easy platform to shop big brands.

Flipkart, one among the top leader in e-commerce business started its operation in 2007 with selling online books and by 2013 sold merchandise across 12 product categories.

In India people still afraid of doing online shopping, because they afraid of online transactions. They don’t want to disclose their credit or debit cards details. Flipkart analyzed this scenario very prudently and introduce cash on delivery, means you can put your order online, you don’t need to pay online at the same time, you can pay money when you get product received at your home. Others reason behind the flipkart success are timely delivery and quality. Flipkart has also introduce 30 days cash back guarantee, means if you are not satisfied with product, or feels some issue with product you can return the product and whole amount paid will be given back to customer.

If we talk about some statistical data of flipkart, it had a turnover of 11.6 crores in 2009-10, which increased to 50 crores in 2010-11. A huge increase occurred in 2011-12, it had 500 crores revenue in this year, 10 times of previous year. Flipkart had 4800 employees in 2012 and served 50,000 orders a day. Its daily sales were about 2.5 crores.
Flipkart is planning to add more categories like fashion apparel and music CD store.

Online hardwork and online offers fetched success for Flipkart. This online success has been complemented by offline hard work. One of the areas for hard work is the supply chain.  Supply chain management is the active management of supply chain activities to maximize customer value and achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Flipkart used supply chain management to develop and run supply chains in the most effective & efficient ways possible. Flipkart had leased warehouses, so it could meet 80% of order directly from warehouse, which makes deliveries faster.
Flipkart and other online shopping websites offer free home delivery, though it is very good strategy, it can attract more customers, but on the other hand it becomes hurdle for e-commerce business. Inspite of huge increase in revenue, Gross margin loss is major issues faced by flipkart. Gross loss is increasing due to delivery cost incurred.

So it is very important for flipkart to raise money for growth, but it also seems to be very hard as investors are not much interested in investing money as they see no future growth in this sector.

One of the reason behind increase in sales and revenue is that flipkart is applying strategies very intelligently. In one of the major strategic move Flipkart acquired letsbuy.com. It becomes killer combination as letsbuy.com firm was expertise in selling consumer electronics and computers,  and flipkart known for superior technology and supply chain management .

They also introduced digital content market with the unveiling of its digital music store ‘Flyte’.

Flipkart also spent huge amount on advertising and they choose IPL (Indian premier League) for the launch of their adcampaign and they came up with new taglines “Shopping ka naya address “
Flipkart is facing a tough competition from other e-commerce companies like Ebay and jungle.com (indirect entry of amazon.com). Amazon is leading online retailer in US and it has also become big online retailer in other foreign countries.

In 2013, Amazon has made direct entry in India, as amazon.in, but still it is redirecting to other online stores for shopping and people can use it for comparing price on different stores.

SWOT analysis of Flipkart
Strength:
·         Cash on delivery(COD) and 30 days cash back guarantee scheme
·         Free to home delivery
·         Good in supply chain management
·         Own warehouses, so delivery is quite fast

Weakness:
·         Cost of acquiring customer  is very high ($15-$18)
·         Delivery cost is incurred by company only
·         Gross loss is increasing

Opportunity:
·         Growth in e-retail sector
·         Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities people are showing more interest in online shopping
·         Mobile applications development for online shopping portal
·         More securities for online transactions provided

Threat:
·         Government policies
·         Increasing competition from international and national players

·         Investors are not showing interest in investing money

WHICH IS BEST DTH SERVICE IN INDIA ???

TATA SKY vs ADTV vs BIG TV vs DISH TV vs SUN DIRECT vs VIDEOCON D2H vs DD DTH - India's Best DTH Network ??

See my latest post on DTH Smart Set top Box. Click on below link.

Compare Airtel Xstream Box vs Tata Sky Binge+ vs Dish SMRT Hub | Best Smart TV STB

I have already discussed on this topic earlier, The post is " BEST DTH SERVICE PROVIDER IN INDIA " when i wrote this post, at that time DTH is gaining ground in India, Most of the DTH operators were new in the market. But now things have been changed, DTH operators are now stable in the market, they have launched lots of new features, All operators have launched HD DVR(Digital video recorder), even Videocon launches 3D HD DVR.
DTH service

Earlier Airtel Digital Tv broadcasting its services on Insat 4CR, but now its on SES 7 with more number of transponders that it can broadcast more number of  channels.

All new operators using MPEG 4 Technology while Tata Sky and Dish Tv using MPEG 2 compression Technology. But these operators have MPEG 4 ready STB'S, so when they shift to MPEG 4, they can easily broadcast their services.

All DTH operators now offering HD channels on their platform, videocon offering maximum HD channels. so if your television is HD  supported then you must go for HD set top box

So with the time All dth operators adding new features, new technology and new channels to their platform, but it is still not easy to decide WHICH IS THE BEST DTH ?

If we talk about Airtel Digital Tv, its having best picture and audio quality, MPEG 4 technology but problem with its pathetic customer care, Talk about Reliance digital Tv, having top class picture quality, but complaint of irritating logo, software problem and worst customer care.
Talk about Tata Sky, big brand name, good quality, but expensive in packages than others operators
About Dish Tv , cheapest channel packages,  but picture and audio quality is not up to mark
Videocon have maximum number of channels, MPEG 4 technology, but complaint of picture hanging sometimes.

Here is small comparison among these Dth operators:

AIRTEL DIGITAL TV-

I find Airtel digital tv best in all manner, because it have super picture and audio quality, which must be most prefrable feature while choosing DTH.
Now because Airtel is shifted to new satellite that is SES7, so it have more number of transponders, so it can add more numbers of channel to their platform.

Advantages:

  • ADTV offers truly DVD quality picture and CD quality sound(best audio quality.. awesome)
  • packages and prices are good (Divided well for south and rest of India customers)
  • Universal remote(same remote for your Tv and STB first time in India)
  • STB software is very good
  • ADTV has less rain fed issue comparing to other Dth.
Presently offering maximum True HD channels

Disadvantages:
  • Disadvantage of ADTV  is its interactive services, not able to provide good interactive services to customer ,Recently ADTV added some more interactive services, hope it will add more services and features soon.
  • Switching between two channels is bit slow

for more information  click here

TATA SKY -
Tata sky having 12 transponders on Insat 4A, but it is still using MPEG2 compression technology , so having limited space. But it is proving its brand name, Tata sky added all new famous channel to its boutique, and offers top picture and audio quality.

Advantages:
  • Good picture and sound quality
  • lots of interactive services as active English, active cooking, active wizkids, active darshan and lots more
  • good STB software and performance, Recently change STB software interface.

Disadvantages:
  • Only disadvantage is its package and pricing - Tata sky is costlier than other service provider
  • New packages(Tru choice package) launched are good but still not satisfactory
for more information on Tata sky click here

Reliance Digital Tv-

Advantages:
  • BIG TV(Reliance Digital Tv) picture and sound quality is awesome, can say best in all dth
  • packages and prices are good
  • lots of own paid movie channels
  • less rain fade issue

Disadvantages:
BIG TV  has not a single disadvantage, having lots

  • one is its irritating large logo, which is not transparent
  • Software problem... not a good EPG(electronic program guide)
  • Hanging problem of STB
  • Incorrect package activation and bad customer service

for more information click here

DISH TV-

Advantages:
  • Biggest advantage of dish TV is its cost. Pay less get more
  • packages and pricing are too good( cheapest in all dth )
  • same satellite of dd dth and dish TV, so all free to air channels of dd dth is also available for dish tv customer
  • Software of STB is very good, switching speed between channels is pretty fast

Disadvantages:
  • Picture and sound quality is not good
  • worst customer support
  • Activation process is too slow

for more information click here

SUN DIRECT-

Advantages:
Advantage of sun direct is that it consists all sun and other south channels , which are popular in south India
For rest of India customers it is adding channels to its bouquet
Picture and sound quality is good

but still it needs a time to occupy rest of India market.
for more information click here

VIDEOCON D2H-

Newly launched videocon gaining customers by and by, due to its packages cost, also using MPEG-4 technology

Advantage-
  • picture and audio quality good
  • channels are available at less price, package and price good
  • maximum number of channels are available
  • maximum number of HD channels available (Update : Now Airtel digital tv have maximum HD channels)

Disadvantage-
  • customers reporting pixelation problem sometime
  • STB software is not Good

for more information click here

DOORDARSHAN DTH-

DD Direct Plus is India’s first and only DTH service that offers its services absolutely free of cost. No monthly subscriptions to be paid when you are with DD Direct Plus.

Advantage-
one time payment only for hardware

Disadvantage-
only dd channels and some private fta channels are available
popular private channels are not available

Nokia Lumia 928 Goes Airborne To Show Off Its OIS Skills

Although Nokia has already officially announced its Lumia 928, they are still very excited about the flagship and the drum up for it continues through the video that they came up with just for such purpose of the show.
They actually came up with the latest video a few days ago when they were expecting to launch it on the 14th of this month in their next event.

The video message to show the OIS skills of the Nokia Lumia 928 flagship
The video for the flagship was meant to show case the image stabilization of thee camera features for this Nokia Lumia 928 Flagship.
The Finns actually strapped the remote-controlled octa-copta and flew over various landscapes as opposed to the low footage that they always do for such show casing of the flagship.
Nokia lumia 928

Just to remind you of this flagship, let us revisit again the specifications of the device that is being show cased.

The features of the Nokia Lumia 928
The Nokia Lumia 928 will be well equipped with 8.7 MP camera image sensors that are actually optically stabilized and will be behind the 26mm wide-angle Carl Zeiss lens which has an F/2.0 aperture. This is definitely different from the Lumia 920 which has a model packs Xenon flash alongside the standard LED flash.

  • This new Nokia Lumia 928 will also be just 0.5 mm thicker than the already known Lumia 920 although they look almost similar in size and shape.
  • This unique camera of the Nokia Lumia 928 can actually capture up to 1080p video at the 30fps and even record the sounds as loud as 140dB and this is because of the HAAC wide dynamic range microphones

  • The Nokia Lumia 928 will also be well equipped with the 4.5 inch screen with 768 x 1280 pixels resolution. It will definitely be well packed with the AMOLED display with Clear Black and a High Brightness mode for up to 500nits of brightness. The display for this Nokia Lumia 928 is really super sensitive and can even work with the fingernails and even with the gloves.

  • The Nokia Lumia 928 runs the windows phone 8 on its 1.5 GHz dual-core Krait processor with a 1GB of the RAM

  • This Nokia Lumia 928 is well equipped with a 32GB of the in-built memory although it is not clear whether there is a microSD slot for the memory expansion.

  • The battery for the Nokia Lumia 928 is also wonderful as it is a 2000mAh battery which is just perfect for the functionality of the device.

In addition there is large 20 liters fuel tank that gives the bike its muscular look and does away with the need to stop frequently for fuel.

The design of the thnderbird 500 is simultaneous to its function. For instance, the seat has been designed to suit the new foot pegs position. HTC One X+: Introverted, Quirky Smartphone Review

HTC has been in the smart phone market since the years that you can count. They have once a little grip over Smartphone segment. I don’t know what they want to do? Either they are quite clear regarding their goals or may be I am so dumb that I can’t get their strategy. They are undoubtedly working like someone who doesn’t believe in number race. Do they really believe so or they are just showing of to be.  Though they have a tagline saying “quietly brilliant”, I can not believe that in today’s capitalism driven market any Developers can afford to be out of number game.
HTC One X+ Overview
As far as their tagline is concerned I do believe their phones are really smart but as far as HTC one X (which I have recently had hands on) is concerned they are fractionally incorrect.

HTC One X+ - First Impression:

This is not the time when you can stress upon functionary aspect of smart device and just forget about Design and Built. Unfortunately it’s not true in case of HTC X+. HTC has the legacy of providing industry leading screen touch sensors but HTC X+ has failed to carry on that legacy. I have to press somewhere with more pressure and on some occasion it worked quite smoothly. Another disappointment for me was regarding one click app availability concept. The very concept is not followed in HTC X+.
I have had a chance to play with the device more than a week and I genuinely felt that HTC has rectified battery issue quite effectively. Another rectification that has caught my eye was they have improved storage capacity of the device on a different line than their tradition, for good. Still there are issues with hardware and UI design; there are no bugs actually but I don’t know the appearance or you may say overall look and feel hasn’t impressed me to the level.
There are still other issues. One is that it’s on little heavier side of weight spectrum. If you are so much used to with other smart phones you will disappoint here that you can not remove the battery of the device. It also lacks SD slot.
I don’t like the color saturation, Hue and Chroma synchronization of the smart phone.

HTC One X and Potential Competitor

If you are better than mainstream, people will expect more from you. This applies to HTC One X+ too. I have made certain criticisms on that line. But if you use it once you will have only one competitor of the device in your mind, and that’s the leader of the market Samsung Galaxy S3.
Yes I know HTC One X has no similar large screen, no vibrant colors still it’s a solid phone.

Final Words:

There is a proverb in English, “you like a person for their qualities, but you love them for their quirks”. Yes HTC One X+ is not a human being but for me the saying applies to it. As a common human psychology I too sometimes think beyond my neutrality as a tech reviewer and that is why I describe this phone as “HTC X+: Introverted, quirky Smartphone!” I hope you have already found that the phone fractionally follow the tagline too, its quite, introvert or whatever you want to say.

Aakash 2 Tablet Performance Review & Features

So another year and new version of low cost Aakash Tablet is launched by Datawind in association with HRD ministry. According to the stories Aakash 2 will have improved feature, performance and enhanced  user experience than its predecessor Aakash.

Previous version of low cost Aakash Tablet was a complete failure, whether it is hanging problem, issue of connectivity, performance - A failure, not up to the mark.
Aakash 2 Tablet Review Performance

As compare to previous version Aakash 2 has 1 GHz cortex A8 processor, while previous version was powered by 366 MHz processor. So we can hope for less hanging issue and somewhat a better performance than previous version.

Upgraded Aakash tablet runs Android 4.0 Operating system, while previous version had Android 2.2 OS. The new Tablet has 512 MB RAM and internal memory of  4 GB (Expandable upto 32 GB) and according to news battery backup is around 4 hours.

Aakash Tablet 2 is available at a subsidized price of  Rs 1130 , for Indian student , and a commercial version  of Aakash-2 branded as UbiSlate 7Ci , is available at Rs 4499 on Datawind's website.

Now the thing is they have upgraded the features, but upgradation is not a guarantee of Quality. Aakash 2 is also facing a problem of " Made in China " controversy, Charges are on Datawind that they bought low cost Chinese Tablet and sold in India as product developed and manufactured in India.Still there is problem with performance and availability.

Lots of complaints are there that people didn't get there previous version of Aakash till date, whereas they have already paid online.

Key Features Of Aakash 2 :

  • 7" multi-touch Capacitve screen
  • 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor
  • 512 MB RAM
  • Android 4.0.3 OS
  • Camera : Front VGA
  • Network - WiFi & GPRS
  • High Quality video streaming and video playback
  • Audio - 3.5 mm Jack
Overall we can say if you get Aakash 2 at a subsidized price of  Rs 1130, then go for it because having your own Tablet at this price will really be a great experience, but to go for a commercial version at Rs 4499 will be a hard decision.

Sony Xperia Miro - Review- Features & Specification

Introduction.
Sony Xperia series phones have made a mark as reliable and sturdy devices. Sony XperiaMiro is the latest offering from this famous brand, and it is a phone that promises to deliver a lot going by the features it offers. The device runs on the trusted android version 4 also called the ice cream sandwich OS.  A powerful 800 MHz processor is an excellent back up of the operating system, and the 512MB Ram promises a flawless functioning of the numerous applications that can be performed on the device.
Sony Xperia Miro- Review
Hardware.
The hand set has distinctive visual features such as the sloping metallic plate under the row of capacitive keys on the front. Moreover, the phone comes in a wide range of color combinations, including a snowy- white version. Despite being made of a boring plastic, the petite sizedXperia, feels light and well built making it possible for one to operate with a single thumb. Accidental presses are minimized since the three capacitive buttons under the screen are well spaced.
However, the 2-button volume rocker located on the right side and the lock key positioned on top are somehow tiny, and this proves to be a discomfort.
The phone boasts a nice and a handy feature in the name of a discreet RGB LED right next to the earpiece. It glows in a respective color each time you have a missed call, a face book message or simply when operating under low battery.
Screen.
It has a 3.5-inch displayTFT capacitive touch screen which provides a resolution of 320 by 480 pixels. However, graphics do not look good on it as it has a 165ppi. The screens color presentation and viewing angles are okay but, unfortunately, it does not have a light sensor. This means that one has to boost the brightness manually.
The phone comes with another excellent feature called the power saver which switches off a number of features when enabled. It also reduces the screen’s brightness to preserve more energy.
The phone uses the Times cape UI which is an interface that focuses heavily on the social networking while making the interaction that is between the user and the smart phone simple and easy.Standard connectivity features such as GPS, Bluetooth, WI-Fi and a 3G of upto 7.2 mbps are supported by the XperiaMiro. It also has a micro USB port where one can connect the device to a computer.
Camera.
The phone also comes with a 5 megapixel camera that also acts as a video recorder. The camera comes with additional features like touch capture, Geo tagging, auto focus, and video stabilizer which all contribute to enhance the usability of the device. A secondary camera of 0.3 megapixels allows users to conduct video calling easily.
Conclusion.
With a better screen and a lower price tag, the device will surely carve a niche in the market, a fact supported by its impressive battery life and good media options. This makes the phone a worthy buy.

Apple Ipad Vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1: A comparison

As we know Apple has been the popular brand to launch phone sets, laptops and much more. Now there have been different inventions in terms of Ipads as well in Apple. No doubt that there are many tablets around the horizon, still when we talk about tablet tussle, the fight appears most importantly between Apple Ipad and Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1. People often get confused to choose between the two. We are here, mentioning the comparison between them.
comparison of Apple Ipad and Samsung Galaxy tab

Design and Weight of the devices
Whether the weight of Galaxy Tab is almost the same as Apply Ipad, i.e., Glaxy Tab with 10.1 inch display and Apply Ipad with around 9.7 inch, there is a difference in the depth, each of the measures, with Galaxy Tab 0.43 inches depth and Ipad measures 0.34 inches depth wise.

Resolution
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has the resolution of 1280x800 whereas the iPad provides 1024x768 resolution. If we consider the size of both of the screens, both the devices have relatively same resolution. We can’t make a comparison at this, therefore.

The Memory Space
The Apple iPad 2 provides options for the user to select between16GB, 32GB and 64GB internal memory. If we compare with Galaxy Tab, so far, it provides just two choices, 16GB and 32GB. Both of them have not initiated with RAM on even the latest versions of them.
Power of the Processor
There is a dual-core 1GHz A5 processor in Apple Ipad for the quick and fast compatibility of this devise. Same is the case with Galaxy Tab 10.1, having powerful dual-core 1 GHz processor. The main A4 chip for Apple Ipad was, previously, created by Samsung, and this manufacturer is known to be the main and largest element for Apple.
Camera Results
Here are two meets. Both Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the iPad have 2 cameras. The first one has 8MP rear-facing and 2MP front-facing camera.
In the near future, Samsung might have 1080p video capturing support at its latest version.

Functioning Capability
The Apple iPad 2 operates iOS 4.3, making the web browsing much faster. It also offers a modified version of Apple’s proprietary Nitro JavaScript, which means that all the programs are operating at much faster pace in all the Ios-based procedures. Whereas the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 uses Android 3.0, also known as Honeycomb which allows multitasking at much faster, easy and powerful manner and use of widgets is much feasibly customized.
Cost of the Products
The important factor that signifies the difference between Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Apple Ipad is the cost. The 16 GB WiFi Ipad has $499 price and 64GB WiFi 3G has the cost of $829.
The most expensive ones at yet seem to be Android 3.0 tablets. If we consider the above mentioned features, it will be doubtful for now to guess the price of Galaxy Tab 10.1that whether, it would be competitive to Apple Ipad .
Comparison for the Battery Life
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has not definable battery life up till now but we can guess from Android 3.0 which, in tablets of OS, has a better battery life whereas, Apple Ipad provides battery life of 10 hours approximately.

SONY ERICSSON XPERIA ARC S - REVIEW & FEATURES

The 3D Panorama Feature: A Distinguishing Feature in Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S
Sony Ericsson xperia Arc SAnother charismatic member of the Sony Ericsson family is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S. But just taking the newest flagship releases and including some technological nips, is what the phone companies use to do to attract the public’s attention. The eye catching aspects and features of the other latest products are taken and given a modified and suited name to gain the most preference. Xperia Arc S has some of the same features as of its forerunner. It also experienced the same refreshing release with a bit change in hardware. The Xperia Arc S has an additional Sony’s 3D panorama feature which runs to produce 3D stills for the purpose of consumption in TV. You might notice some other difference too as we proceed. Let’s have an observation of Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S features.
Xperia Arc’s Hardware and Screen
The power button, on the top perimeter has the micro-HDMI port next to it. There is a 4.2-inch screen and at peak is an over-sized bezel which can make the fingers overstretched while pressing the petite button again and again.
The 4.2-inch screen shows that it is a fearsome mechanism. Even with its LCD roots, Sony's Mobile Bravia Engine demonstrates excellent functioning on the 854 x 480 display and it presents even minor detail as well as prosperous coloration. Unfortunately, a slight tilt shows the downsides of the screen display. However, such a wide screen enables you to play games, text and use keyboard and also keep up the internet browsing.
Camera Functioning
There is 8 mega pixel camera which has a good and acknowledgeable result. For the pictures to be taken cleanly and getting the good performance of the camera, the mode of automatic scene recognition should be switched off. You can have the choice between multi point focus touch and the touch to focus.  There are a number of preset scene choices in Arc S. As far as video recording is concerned, the 720p video capturing can be capacitated in Arc S.
Software Operating System in Xperia Arc S
As with the previous version of Xperia Arc S, the Android Gingerbread has been applied in this set as well. Conveniently, Tweeter and Face book updates can be loaded.
In Xperia Arc S, the camera produces the 3D effect by letting itself double and 3D capable screen is to be adjusted in that case. In this type of Android phones, the set starts stuttering as the pictures scroll crosswise the screen. The details also get blurred in 3D capable screen.
